There exists a gap in support services available to the public for those in the midst of a mental health crisis. My experience and training in crisis management as well as working as a mental health first responder has taught me the extreme importance of everyone having someone in their corner – a professional they can safely talk to and connect with during these critical times. Trauma does not happen in a vacuum, and it is crucial to work with family units, partners, or anyone the individual sees as part of their inner circle to develop safety plans, and to strengthen the support networks around the individual(s).
